History & Social Science Concentration

The disciplines of History and Social Sciences are based on individual human beings as they interact with otherhuman beings singly and with groups. Knowledge is acquired and generated by the study of anthropology, history, sociology and certain aspects of geography as they relate to the human
condition.

History & Social Science Concentration Students Will:

  • Choose 4 courses - 16 units required – 8 upper division.
  • Check for pre-requisites before enrolling.

*Students are encouraged to align their emphasis to the requirements for the ISMA in Social Studies or a minor in History or Anthropology and Geography.

  • HIST 208 Survey of California History (4) USCP*
  • HIST 210 World History I (4) GE D3 (Take HIST 221 if planning to follow this emphasis)
  • LS 214 Constitutional Issues in the History of the U.S. and California Education (4)
  • GEOG 308 Global Geography (4) GE D5
  • Area GE D2 that can count towards emphasis and ISMA:
  • ECON 201 Survey of Economics (4) GE D2


One additional course in World History:

  • HIST 221 World History: Beginnings to 1000- recommended( 4)
  • HIST 222 World History: 1000 to 1800( 4)
  • HIST 223 World History: 1800 to present( 4)


One US government course -- Any one of the following:

  • POLS 112 American and California Government (4)
  • POLS 315 The American Presidency (4)
  • POLS 319 United States Congress (4)
  • POLS 337 American Political Thought (4)


One course in American History:

  • HIST 322 Modern America( 4)


World civilization or World cultures -- Any one of the following (4)

  • HIST 307 European Intellectual History
