The Introductory Subject Matter authorization(ISMA) requires 2 courses of each in Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Earth Science.  Students following 2009-11 and earlier curriculum need to add a second course of physics, chemistry and astronomy.  Students in 2013-15 need to add a second course of physics and chemistry.

In 2011-13 curriculum (can be used towards ISMA but not concentration)

  • PSC 101 - Physics (4)
  • PSC 102 - Chemistry (4)
  • PSC 103 - Earth Science (4)
  • BIO 111 - General Biolofy (4)
  • BIO 211 - Biology for teachers (4)

Physical Science

The discipline of Physical Science is based on laws governing matter, motion and energy.   The two major divisions are chemistry, in which the structure, composition and transformation of substances is studied and physics in which motion and energy of matter are considered.   The following courses develop an understanding of the laws of matter, motion and energy and also include the application of those laws in geology and astronomy. Knowledge is generated by a study of information already generated and by personal observations and experiments in a laboratory setting.

Earth Science

The Earth Science is a discipline that relates all sciences related to the planet earth and the sky.  They are mainly divided in geology and astronomy and future students need to have a good understanding of the foundations of theses two fields.  Additional studies will allow students to get in-depth understanding of these disciplines and connections to other sciences.
